PETE CAROLAS
OWNER + PRESIDENT
As a child, Pete remembers fishing for flounder with his family in Chincoteague, Virginia. He loved the adventure, and he treasures the family memories and quality time that they enjoyed. Decades later, after a successful career as an entrepreneur in the oil and gas industry, Pete purchased the Nautical Design company in January 2023. He now provides families and individuals with high quality accessories to enrich their time on the water. The most energizing part of his job is precisely meeting customers’ unique needs. Pete loves what he does and never misses an opportunity to connect with others in the industry.

Since Pete and June embarked on the adventure of buying the company, they have worked seamlessly as a team. June’s vision and strategic skills, gained from her rock solid career in human resources, have played a key role every step of the way. June is brimming with pride in the amazing products the team is building, and the growth in the Nautical Design employees! She is energized by seeing them do what they love to do, and making such beautiful products.

INDIANA BONES CAROLAS
CHIEF RELAXATION OFFICER
The cutest member of the Nautical Design team, Indy joined the Carolas family in 2020 and the NDI team in early 2023. He comes into the office at least once a week to test out the new products and ensure that our seating meets his lofty expectations for comfort. Indy isn't an expert angler, but he loves to eat what we catch! His idea of the perfect day on a boat includes sunbathing, playing tug of war, and cuddling with his favorite humans!
ZACH SAWYER
PRODUCTION MANAGER
Zach has been a member of the Nautical Design team since 2007. As the son of a mechanic, he’s loved working with his hands and building neat projects since childhood. In addition to hand making standard and custom components, Zach enjoys the business and sales side of the company. He loves to connect with partners, suppliers, and clients, leveraging it all to ensure a stellar experience for every person he serves. “Out on the water with my coworkers or with my wife and daughter, once I can’t see land, I realize how small I am in this big world. That perspective is life-changing.” Zach is passionate about every part of our designing and building process, and we are so glad he is on our team.
BOB ERNST
PRODUCTION LEAD
Bringing a wide range of construction, carpentry, and customer service skills, Bob joined our crew in 2014. A variety of our fiberglass, wooden, and teak products find their way to Bob, and absolutely every Nautical Design chair passes through his hands. “My favorite product to build is our large marlin chairs and our FFC 130 fish fighting chairs, because they look beautiful, and they have everything on them: chrome, rod holders, cushions, and more.” Bob is an excellent craftsman and one of the kindest men you’ll ever meet. “I love my team, the challenge of keeping the orders moving, sticking to timeframes, staying organized, and all the materials we use. I’m so excited about being a part of Nautical Design and following Pete’s direction.” We are so blessed to work alongside him.
